About this Website

Suggestopedia is the science and art of untapping the hidden reserve capacities of the human brain and psyche; hypercreativity and hypermnesia. This means that we learn 3 to 5 times faster and without tension a much larger volume of material compared to conventional methods of teaching and learning. It also involves the development of the personality and the manifestation of other latent talents inhibited by the social norm. If the methodology is applied by non-suitably trained practitioners and if the pedagogical process is not directed to the release of the potential capacities but solely to entertainment in the classroom, then it is not suggestopedic.

Due to the political situation in Bulgaria, its creators were unable, for 10 years, to set up and maintain contacts with colleagues in other countries and thus disseminate information about the developments in their field. During that time various alternative approaches using the name of Dr. Lozanov appeared in many countries. There are several companies which have officially registered themselves with the “Lozanov”, “Suggestology” and “Suggestopedic” trademarks. Dr. G. Lozanov was not a member of these institutions and he was not associated with them. Without his knowledge or consent, some individuals have even used Dr. Lozanov’s name as being the author of certain publications, cassettes, etc. Many people, as well, falsely claim that they have been trained as teachers by him. All of these people are unable to produce the corresponding certificate, signed by Dr. Lozanov personally. They act and work on their own responsibility.

About LITTA

Lozanov International Trainers Association (LITA) established by Dr. Lozanov in 2006 was dissolved after his death in 2012.  Some of the LITA members who have been working with Suggestopedia wished to share their knowledge and experiences among themselves and to pass them on to those who would take interest in Suggestopedia and use the method in their work of education and communication.  The initial discussions were held among Zlatotsveta Dumeva (Zlatka), Renata Natcheva (Reni), the late Dr. Lubomir Ganovsky, Franz Ludescher, Stavriana Soubassi and Setsuko Iki.  Several meetings were held in Sofia and Athens, and in the meeting on May 2016 in Vienna the LITTA (Lozanov International Teacher Trainers Association) was founded by Zlatka Dumeva, Reni Natcheva, Franz Ludescher, Lisa Hartmark, Stavriana Soubassi and Setsuko Iki. The decision was made to move forward as seen in this website.

Suggestopedia is a teaching-learning methodology whose main aim is to activate the learners’ untapped reserves of the brain/psyche. It was developed in the 1970s in Sofia by the neuropsychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr. Georgi Lozanov with his colleagues at the Research Institute of Suggestology at the University of Sofia ‘St. Kliment Ohridsky’ and later with the contribution of the linguist, researcher in Musical Pedagogy and creator of the suggestopedic art, Dr. Evelina Gateva.
